    Cordless grinder

5-6 minutes? Man, thats bad. That'll never do, I'd have to have a pile of batteries. You arent the first to say you are pleased with Hitachi, Mark. They are certainly up there in price. I think between you and Erik the DeWalt tools are out. I've always been a little suspicious of DeWalt being...

    Cordless grinder

Jim, thats my thinking. Kettle and a nuker and I could pretty much live in there :D Cali, I went hunting, I think I found the same one on a website over here. Its alot cheaper than the others, but you see the price difference from you guys. Its ~$120 over here. Must say though, the reviews...

    Cordless grinder

Hmm, for £250 I could fit an 240V inverter to my truck so I can run a normal grinder off it.

    Cordless grinder

Apparently such a beast does exist! I've come to the conclusion that a cordless grinder would be a perfect addition to my collection. At the moment grinding out of the workshop involves a generator and the loader which makes 'quick' jobs not so quick. So far, I have only been able to find one...

    Mower of the future

Looks pretty slick. I like the steering wheel out on that arm, couldn't have much more visibility. Bet you cant fix it with just a hammer and a screwdriver though :D

    Kubota backhoe leaks

Any chance of a picture? I suspect a seal too, rams are pretty rebuild-able so you shouldn't have to replace the ram.

What's the story on this -?

The pumps in your link are just lift pumps, in the thread you linked to it appears his injector pump is damaged. An injector pump is a serious bit of kit. You should never need to fit a new one, it should last the life of the engine. $4k is still quite steep. I priced one for a Kubota and it...

    Weighing heavy stuff

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Doc, I havent had time so far, but its on my to-do list. I'm thinking of rigging something up like Brad suggested. Make some sort of hydraulic lifting table and measure the pressure to find the weight.

    box of rocks

The processor was indeed quite dusty, but cleaning it didnt help. I installed a new HD, and now have linux installed on it, which appears to work fine. I dont like it, but it does work for the time being. I tried to install XP, but it cant find any hard drives to install on. Its a mystery to me.

    box of rocks

Interesting one Dan, that would tie in with why its been getting worse over time. I'll tear it open later on.

    box of rocks

I've got my XP recovery CD, but when I try to reinstall XP it crashes with another blue screen. I think I am going to have to reformat and start from scratch. I'll try XP, but I'm becoming more attacted to using Linux. So guys, how do I reformat a computer that I cant access any of the...

    box of rocks

The old confuser has taken a trip to oblivion. I've been getting the 'blue screen of death' intermittently for a while now, but the other day it got far less intermittent, and much more permanent. Wont even start up now, I get the Windown XP screen, then immediately it goes to the blue screen...

    New project, splitter (working)

Been doing lots of splitting. I havent got around to fitting the hydrualics onto the splitter, so its still running off the tractor. The tractor is piling on the hours, but the splitting is pretty moreish! :D I think pretty much everything is bent now except the beam and the ram. Even the...

    Larch

Thanks Frank. It sounds like it'll do nicely for what I have in mind. It wont be ground contact, but it'll be out in the weather. I'm hoping to wont crack too badly as it dries, but time will tell that. I'll certainly agree with 'yet it is about the hardest of all softwoods', judging by its...

    Larch

How good is larch in terms of rot resistance? I'm picking up some big lumps of the stuff tomorrow (3' diameter I believe). I was going to split it for firewood, but I've thought of an experiment I would like to try. No point in doing it if the wood is going to rot away in no time though. I...

    Huh?

Finally got to use my splitter in anger last night. Buddy of mine came over and we worked our way through a truckload of wood. It was all in 4' lengths so we had to cut it into shorter lengths and then split it. Impressed with the splitter, it doesn't have any worries cutting 8" diameter logs...

    Huh?

Yup, busy time of year right now. All pretty mundane stuff too. Did get a bit of time on an 80' crop sprayer, but thats about as exciting as it gets.

    New project, splitter (working)

Erik, by axe I meant a maul. I dont think I would bother trying to chop logs with a normal felling axe, you wouldn't do much more than wear yourself out on oak. Gotta have a nice long hickory handle too. Well, the splitter is starting to look more like a splitter. Slowly but steadily. The sun...

    Weighing heavy stuff

Need to weigh some of my machinery to see if I am legal to tow it. No weighbridge that I can access, not without towing the machinery to it anyway which I cant do until I know if I can tow it or not. Any ideas for weighing stuff at home? I estimate the weight of the heaviest item I need to...
